Sonata-ing (minor) marks both a continuation and a return in choreographic process and practice for me. The work is the continuation of the literal embodiment of classical forms I have been experimenting with in Variations on a theme of 'Wayfaring Stranger' - that work looking at the form of Theme and Variations, and this one looking at the Sonata form. It is also a return in process for of working with and reacting to pre-existing musical scores (the last work I made with such an emphasis of this being Scintilla in 2016).

In the process of making our "movement illustration" to Albinoni's work, we enjoyed and struggled with the various structures, textures, and rhythms of the score - some personal favourite moments being fighting with the pace of the first Allegro, and discovering / playing with the underlying hidden swing beat (dotted rhythm) within the second Allegro.

Due to time limitations within the process we were unfortunately unable to add the third (of fourth) section of Albinoni's score, but hope to do so within future creation periods and performances!
My sincere thanks go to Rosie Tong, without whose generosity in terms of movement, creativity and time wouldn't have made the work possible.
